About YPT

Young People’s Theatre, Newcastle, Inc. (YPT) has provided training and performance opportunities for young people between the ages of eight and eighteen for more than 50 years. Our history is marked with stories of high achievement and potential disaster, from the establishment of a theatre for young people to the loss of our building in a devastating fire.
Young People’s Theatre is the premier theatrical training institution for youth in the Hunter and has nurtured the careers of many young people with aspirations to continue in the industry. YPT fosters original works, technical training and youth directors. YPT’s objectives demonstrate our focus on the development of young people in a performance context and, in so doing, also realise the hopes and dreams of our founders, William and Betty Ford.
Lindsay Street Players (LSP)
Lindsay Street Players (LSP) is an ensemble created under the umbrella of YPT. It caters for YPT adult members who are keen to participate in productions. LSP productions include works more suited to a mature audience. People wishing to participate in LSP productions, must have current YPT membership and have been a member of YPT for at least the previous twelve months.
Management Committee
Young People’s Theatre is an incorporated community organisation administered by a Management Committee elected by the Adult Members at the Annual General Meeting in March each year. General Meetings are held at the Theatre on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.00pm. Parents/carers are encouraged to become Adult Members, to attend the meetings and to participate in running the organisation.
