Genevieve Clay

2009 Tropfest Winner

Genevieve in a YPT production

Young People’s Theatre Newcastle is very pleased to see another of its former members receiving industry acknowledgement. A film, entitled Be My Brother, entered by Genevieve Clay was the winner of the 17th Annual Tropfest Short Film Festival. Genevieve drew on her Newcastle connections and friendships with people with disabilities to produce her winning entry.

Another former Young People’s Theatre Newcastle member, Simon Connett, was sound engineer for the film. Genevieve and Simon attended school together before pursuing their own careers in Sydney. The winner’s trophy was presented by actor David Wenham before a crowd of 70.000 people gathered in Sydney’s Domain. Genevieve, who is 20 years old and works for the ABC’s show JTV, won a trip for two to Los Angeles, a tailored program of meetings with agents, executives and industry contacts, as well as $5000 cash and $100,000 of film-making resources which she will use to create her first feature film.
