We are thrilled to be opening Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Musical on Tuesday 30 September, but before we opened we need to know what people thought of our show! We invited 6 of our students to attend the final dress rehearsal and let us know their thoughts about the show. Our Kid’s Quotes Reviewers are Madi (9), Rory (17), Chael (11), Dash (10), Zarli (11), and Amelie (12)! Check out what they had to say!
What happens in the show?
Madi: Greg is a nerd and he is not popular.
Rory: Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the survival diary – sorry journal, of Middle Schooler, Greg Heffley, recounting how he survused the first year of Middle School as the middle child of his family and his rise to popularity!
Chael: Greg Heffley has just started Middle School. Greg is worried about his popularity and tries various methods to save it. Greg’s “best friend” Rowley is unfortunately not Greg’s idea of popular. Greg has to juggle is school life and his one true friend. Intrigued? THEN GET SOME TICKETS!
Dash: Greg Heffley starts his first year in Middle School and tries to boost his popularity level thinking that it will be a piece of cake but it proves to be harder than it looks!
Zarli: At the start, Greg finally goes to Middle School and needs to find his place. He then goes to Rowleys hose and Greg learns that Rowley is crazy abot Joshie, the rockstar. Wanna find out more? Go watch Diary of a Wimpy Kid!
Amelie: Greg Heffley begins Middle School and is on a mission to become popular but everything goes wrong. His journey is accompanied by really catchy music and energetic dances. This show is a must-see performance, full of excitement.
What did you like best about the performance?
Madi: That they throw a lot of mom bucks into the audience!
Rory: I like how immersed the audience were in the show. With sets, props, actor, direction and tech, the audeince had the opportunity to live the story with Greg in a way that a lot of shows can’t/don’t do.
Chael: The amazing props and set that take you on a journal through Greg’s diary makes the whole experience so much better.
Dash: The amount of humor in the play and the choreography.
Zarli: All scenes were amazing but the one I liked most was the Cheese Touch, it was really funny and Silly.
Amelie: My favourite part was when the cast threw Mom Bucks! They went everywhere and you felt like a part of the show!
Why should audiences come see the show?
Madi: There are a LOT of fun songs and dialogue!
Rory: This show is suitable for all people of all ages, especially families. Whether you’ve seen it or read it, or this is your first time hearing about it, you are guarenteed to have a hilarious experience.
Chael: The amazing acting delivered by the cast. The cast are always showing emotion and engaging even when they are not front and centre. This show is great for families due to it’s funny themes.
Dash: You should come to watch this show as it is a great source of entertainment.
Zarli: It’s a really fun and silly show and I feel most ages would like it.
Amelie: Everyone should come see the show becase it tells a really important message that sometimes being wimpy is okay, as long as you have your best friend, and an animal heart.
What are a few things you liked about the show and how it enhanced your experience!
Madi: I loved all the music, set and props in the show! I loved the costumes, props and all the black and white props.
Rory: The animated backdrops and how they’re so custmised to the physical set, all the Animal Heart and Mom Bucks sequences, and the overall talent of the whole cast and crew.
Chael: The lighting enhances the show dramatically by helping the scene have depth and emotion. The wonderful songs in this show really makes it more engaging, the props and set immerse you into the story.
Dash: I like how in the background it displayed Greg’s diary and also the backpack prop was cute. The music was really catchy and all the colourful costumes really stood out in the grey background.
Zarli: In the Cheese Touch there is smoke all over the stage and torches! All of the costumes, set and props are really cool and convenient, I also like the back wall, it’s really cool! The music is awesome and fun and brings up the mood.
Amelie: The music really enhances the perofmrance, you really feel immersed in the performance, like you were a part of it. Everyones costume really represent their character and give their character depth. Joshie’s costume is really cool, with heaps of glitter and cool should pieces. Overall the costume really helps you imagine the setting, I could instantly tell it was a school in the school scenes.

Madi: They did so good knowing their lines!! GREAT JOB!!
Chael: Overall, this musical is outstanding and great for the family. The amazing cast have really taken it to a whole new level.
Dash: The doors and windows at the back of the room looked really cool when people stuck out their heads. They performed one of the most entertaining show’s I’ve seen!
Zarli: One of the best musicals I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many. Hopefully everyone watching feels the same!
Amelie: I really like all the singing and dancing, the energy is really high. Even the ensemble has heaps of energy. Keep doing what you are doing!
