On our last day of dress rehearsals, 4 YPT students came along to see Alice in Wonderland JR and gave us their thoughts on the show. Our reviewers were Aria (13), Lucy (10), Sebastian (11), Leila (12), and Banjo (14).
1. Write a short re-telling of what happens in the show
Aria Heard:
The story starts off with Alice Daydreaming, she then follows the white rabbit inside a rabbit hole, where she grows big and small, so she can fit through the door into wonderland. She soon then meets tweedle dee and tweedle dum, then the self centred flower girls who leave Alice feeling sad. Alice meets the Mad Hatter who is wacky and fun. The angry queen enters and challenges Alice to a game.
Lucy Pranevicius:
Alice goes into a world of her own and explores. She makes new friends and has some troubles and at the end, finds out who she truly is.
Sebastian Dayton:
Alice in Wonderland is a tale about Alice finding her inner self. She meets many different personalities in wonderland but struggles to figure herself out.
Leila Kierce:
Alice goes down a rabbit hole where she meets so many new people that help her figure out who she is.
2. What did you like best about the performance?
Aria Heard:
My favourite part of the performance would have to be the Mad Hatter scene; it was filled with fun and was so funny and entertaining.
Lucy Pranevicius:
For the first half, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and the Caterpillar scene. For the second half, the court scene and ‘Painting the Roses Red’
Sebastian Dayton:
I loved the set pieces. The stage is filled with fun, interactive pieces that move around during the show.
Leila Kierce:
I really loved all the different costumes; they made all the songs and dances so fun!
Banjo Brown:
I loved the Mad Hatters scene!
3. Why should audiences come see the show?
Aria Heard:
I think the show can truly transport you, and this amazing cast does a great job of making you believe you are going on this adventure with the characters. This show will make you imagine run wild! I will definitely recommend this show for all ages and would be a great way to spend the holidays!
Lucy Pranevicius:
It’s a very adventurous show that will make kids more creative (in my opinion) in their surroundings.
Sebastian Dayton:
I think people should come and see this show because it is very entertaining and lively but also has a serious message about discovering who you are as you grow up.
Leila Kierce:
I think people should see the show because all the songs and singing is so awesome, and the dances are wonderful.
4. List a few things you liked about the following elements of the show and how it enhanced your experience: Lighting, Use of Sound/Music, Costume, Set & Props:
Aria Heard:
Costumes: Alices quick changes was extremely cool and really showed the transition from the real world into wonderland.
Set: I love how creative the set is, it truly transported me into wonderland. I also liked the slide on the set and also the ladder being made out of cards. Overall, the set is beautiful and well made.
Lucy Pranevicius:
I think the lighting and the costumes were amazing. It just changed the experience so much.
Sebastian Dayton:
The lighting added another level to this fantastic show. It was used to elevate our interpretation of the story, using vivid colour. You will love the playful songs and sound effects. It is filled with singing, dancing, and some great solos. The costumes were amazing and helped bring the characters to life! My favourite was the mad hatter’s coat. Prepare to be amazed! There are some fantastic set pieces in this show. Look out for the eyeglasses swing and ribbon slide at the back of the stage!
Leila Kierce:
I loved how all the props on the vanity were a part of the set somehow, and I really loved the gloves that lit up!
