The cast of SHREK THE MUSICAL JR. was lucky enough to have some Kid’s Quotes Reviewers attend their final dress rehearsal and give our audiences a sneak peek at what our show is like. We were lucky enough to have Amber (16), Annie (11), Camille (11), Olive (11), Nia (9), AJ (12), Evie (11). Here’s what they had to say!
What happens in the show?
Amber – Shrek and Donkey get told to go on an adventure by Lord Farquaad and find the princess. Once they find her and escape the dragon, it is revealed she is also an Ogre….
Annie – Shrek was sent away and grew up on his own. One day fairytale creatures were in his swamp so he went to Lord Farquaad and was sent to save a princess to get his swamp back.
Camille – A cranky ogre finds his swamp full of fairy tale characters. The only way to get them out is to rescue princess Fiona, but they soon learn to love each other.
Olive – Shrek heads on a mission to rescue a princess for Lord Farquaad in order to get his swamp back. On the way he meets many new friends that assist him through his journey.
Nia – Shrek is an ogre who finds donkey and defeats the dragon to save Fiona.
AJ – After Lord Farquaad banished some of the fairytale creatures to Shrek’s Swamp, Shrek goes on a mission to get the rights to his swamp. Shrek meets Donkey on the way to Lord Farquaad, who makes a deal that if Shrek rescues princess Fiona so he can get married, he will give over the rights to the swamp. But when Shrek and Donkey beat the dragon guarding the tower, they save Fiona who had a secret. She was also an Ogre and realised that Shrek is the love of her life.
Evie – Lord Farquaad takes over Shrek’s swamp so Shrek has to rescue princess Fiona for Lord Farquaad to marry her. But Shrek and Fiona like each other for who they are.
What did you like best about the performance?
Amber – I loved the comedy and all the different fairytale characters. I loved the dragon, the incredible outfits and the fabulous vocals by all. The ending was so happy!
Annie – I liked all of the songs and how they did the sets!
Camille – The actors themselves! As well as the music and dances. I enjoyed the songs because they help tell the story in a different way, a more meaningful way. I also loved the part before intermission when the shadow of Fiona steps out with her…. Secret.
Olive – There was lots of humour and the casts choreography + vocals were really great. You can tell everyone put their heart into it.
Nia – My favourite part is when Donkey wears cool glasses that make him look like a spy.
AJ – No one was ever just “standing”. The physicality of the actors was amazing. They weren’t just acting and using their face they were using their whole bodies, and that’s incredible.
Evie – That Lord Fraquaad was very short hahaha!
Why should audiences come to see the show?
Amber – the audience should come see this show to see how YPT has envisioned Shrek and to see these amazing talented young performers.
Annie – This musical sends a good message to the audiences and it’s a very entertaining show.
Camille – Because I believe it shares an important message: don’t judge a book by its cover but judge it by it’s words.
Olive – it’s a great production for the family. Its fun for all ages so everyone can have a good laugh.
Nia – Audiences should watch Shrek JR. because its very entertaining and will give you a laugh.
AJ – It’s not every day you get to watch shows. But this show is a must see with all the actors committed and the dedication, it’s very entertaining.
Evie – Because its more amazing than I though and I thought it was going to be mind-blowing!
List a few things you liked about the following elements of the show and how it enhanced your experience: Lighting, Use of Sound/Music, Costume, Set & Props:
Amber – the set is so pretty. I love Fiona’s tower and how she ages. The amount of tally’s increases showing how long she’s been there. The costuming is beautiful; the colours make each fairytale character stand out. I loved Fiona’s costume change onstage.
Annie – I really like how the costumes look a lot like the movie and all of the props were really creative.
Camille – I loved the costumes as they help bring the characters to life. The lighting also I love as it changes dependent on the mood. And finally the props, the props help tell a story.
Olive – I liked how detailed the fairytale creatures costumes were, and how you could easily point out which character were who. The set was also very detailed and it really brought the scenes to life.
Nia – with the music it really set the scene. The lighting told us the time of day and who to look at. My favourite sound was when someone yelled ‘cocka-doodle-doo”!
AJ – I loved the fly’s it truly helped to know where we were in the show. The costumes had very night variety of textures and colours which was lovely and contrasted very well.
Evie – The singing was amazing and the set really sets the scene.
Any other comments?
Amber – I loved it so much! Will 100% come again! And everyone looked like they had so much fun
Annie – This show was also very funny and enjoyable to watch. You can tell they are having fun which makes the audience have fun!
Camille – This show will definitely put a smile on your face! The audience feels a part of the story. It’s hard to believe that these are not actually fairytale characters but young actors.
Olive – Overall, the vocals were outstanding, the choreography was wow-ing and the whole show was great. COME BUY TICKETS!
Nia – Best show I’ve ever seen in my life!
AJ – I got told a story. An enjoyable, entertainable story. And that is good acting. Congrats. This story is amazing.
Evie – SOOOOO cool and fun!
