Kid’s Quotes: The Shoemaker’s Secret

We invited 5 of our YPT students to watch the final dress rehearsal of The Shoemaker’s Secret last week and this is what they had to say about it!
What happens in the show?
Scarlett: First, there is a lot of Smoke and William is thinking of giving up his shoe shop. Then they introduce the ladies and the princess, they need a pair of dancing shoes for the ball, but William doesn’t have enough leather to make a pair of shoes. William can’t make the shoes, and the mice decide (in secret) to make the finest dancing shoes for the princess. So, William stays watch at night to figure out who made the shoes. NOW you must come and watch to find out the ending!
Heidi: it starts with a raging forest fire and William McShoes has nearly given up and is considering selling the shoe shop because no one is buying the shoes. Finally, the fire settles, and William’s eyesight gets worse, but then a group of royal princesses announce a ball and ask William for shoes, what will he do? Then an evil Lady (Ms Cheap) Willaims biggest competitor, comes to their home and somehow finds out about the princesses’ ball and finds out about them needing shoes, so she takes it on to make their shows. With William’s eyesight only getting worse, the cats and mice decide they need to work as a team to make the shoes look amazing…. Do you want to find out more? Come and book your tickets!
Tommy: It follows a Shoemaker and the mice that surround him.
Tilly: The princesses need shoes for the ball and the shoemaker has secret helpers. McCheap’s tries to steal the plan from the Shoemaker.
Xander: There is a poor shoemaker who is in dire need for money, and has poor eyesight. He and his sister let the cats and mice live in their house. Everything shift when the princess, Catherine, comes and request a pair of dancing shoes.
What did you like best about the performance?
Scarlett: The thing I loved most is the story line and the characters, I loved the cute costumes and everything fit perfectly together.
Heidi: I liked the humor of the town crier as they announce if all is well or is not well.
Tommy: The use of going up the aisle and into the audience
Tilly: Princesses shoes and all the songs! And McCheaps coming in!
Xander: The amazing costumes/designs.
Why should audiences come to see the show?
Scarlett: I recommend coming and watching this super cute and amazing show. It’s definitely aimed at little kids but my age (14) could enjoy this cute show. It’s very entertaining and a fun way to spend your free time.
Heidi: Audiences should come and see it because the show is really entertaining to experience for all ages.
Tommy: It is very charming and comedic.
Tilly: To see amazing musical theatre and talented kids
Xander: This is a very wholesome show, a show for the whole family.
List a few things you liked about the following elements of the show and how it enhanced your experience: Lighting, Use of Sound/Music, Costume, Set & Props:
Scarlett: The smoke at the start made the stage look really cool and the lights were really good at the start to make the characters POP on stage . I loved the colorful lights and music when the Cats are trying to catch the mice. The mice costumes are so cute. The Shoemaker’s costumes fit the set perfectly. I also love the royals’ costumes, they look very posh, and they definitely look like princesses.
Heidi: I really liked the piano accompaniment throughout all the songs and I thought the costumes, especially for all the animals, gave the audience more of an understanding of them.
Tommy: The usage of lighting for things like fire, night and day. Sounds like fire crackling, trumpets and bells made me feel like I wasn’t an audience member
Tilly: Costumes and Makeup for the animals! Beautiful shoes with one plain piece of leather.
Xander: Beautiful music composition, amazing effects and well put together costumes.

Scarlett: I loved the costumes and definitely recommend everyone to come watch.
Heidi: Amazing show would recommend to anyone!
Tommy: An overall fun and charming experience.
